Once every few years, Hanukkah and Christmas cross paths, intertwine, or share dates. People gift each other jelly donuts and ugly sweaters, dreidels sit alongside Christmas trees, along with candles and holiday lights. This is an opportunity to discover a common ground – to play around and celebrate the joy of light that warms us all in the peak of the cold winter. 

At the very edge of the pier at the Tel Aviv Port, we created the TzinOrot art installation, during the Hannukah celebrations of 2016.

From afar, lights seem to be twinkling in the treetops - as if they are part of a Parisian boulevard, just before Christmas. Up close, one can discover dozens of intertwined, transparent pipes wrapped in twinkling lights. Inside, glowing balls roll straight towards large, transparent half-open balls. The 9 branches and the tubes combine to create a Hannukiah (Hannukah menorah).

The installation was planned as a rendezvous point for families celebrating the two holidays, and designed with a familiar and comforting appearance, while also providing a unique and playful experience. The balls can be collected into cloth bags, and then can be rolled back down, twinkling from within dozens of transparent pipes. Rolling the balls and watching them make their way through the often surprising routes is, indeed, a simple game, but one that is fun and heartwarming.

במבט מרחוק – אורות מנצנצים בצמרות, כמו חלק משדרה בפריז לפני כריסמס. כשמתקרבים, מגלים עשרות צינורות שקופים המשתרגים זה בזה, עטופים בנוריות מנצנצות, ובתוכם מתגלגלים כדורים זוהרים, היישר אל חצאי כדורים שקופים וענקיים. תשעת הכנים והצינורות יוצרים יחד חנוכייה

המיצב תוכנן כנקודת מפגש למשפחות החוגגות את החגים השונים, עם המראות המוכרים והאהובים, לצד חווית משחק שונה וייחודית. אפשר לאסוף כדורים לתוך שקי בד, ואז לגלגל אותם למטה חזרה, מנצנצים בעשרות הצינורות השקופים. גלגול הכדורים במסלולים המפתיעים שיצרו הצינורות, הוא אמנם משחק פשוט, אך שובה לב
